چکیده

Manganese oxides are of great interest as low cost and environmentally sound intercalation cathodes for rechargeable lithium batteries, but have suffered from limited capacity and instability upon cycling at the moderately high temperatures (50-70°C) encountered in many applications. Here, we show that LixAl0.05Mn0.95O2 of both the monoclinic and orthorhombic ordered rock salt structures exhibit stable cycling and high discharge capacities at elevated temperatures, after an initial transient associated with a spinel like phase transformation. In cells utilizing Li anodes tested at 55°C, rechargeable capacities of 150 mAh/g for the orthorhombic and 200 mAh/g for the monoclinic phase and energy densities ~500 Wh/kg were achieved over more than 100 cycles (2.0-4.4 V). At low current densities, charge capacities approached the theoretical limit. The temperature stability and excellent electrochemical performance, combined with nontoxicity and low raw materials cost, make these compounds attractive cathodes for advanced lithium batteries. © 1999 The Electrochemical Society. Regenerable Cu-intercalated MnO2 layered cathode for highly cyclable energy dense batteries

Manganese dioxide cathodes are inexpensive and have high theoretical capacity (based on two electrons) of 617 mAh g-1, making them attractive for low-cost, energy-dense batteries. They are used in non-rechargeable batteries with anodes like zinc. Only ∼10% of the theoretical capacity is currently accessible in rechargeable alkaline systems. Attempts to access the full capacity using additives h...

Hollow carbon nanofiber-encapsulated sulfur cathodes for high specific capacity rechargeable lithium batteries.

Sulfur has a high specific capacity of 1673 mAh/g as lithium battery cathodes, but its rapid capacity fading due to polysulfides dissolution presents a significant challenge for practical applications. Here we report a hollow carbon nanofiber-encapsulated sulfur cathode for effective trapping of polysulfides and demonstrate experimentally high specific capacity and excellent electrochemical cyc...

This research aim to optimize two kinds of cathode material, LNCA and lithium manganese rich materials (LNMC), which are potential cathodes of EV since their high theoretical specific capacity. However several drawbacks need to be improved such as their low cycling performance, unstable structure, and fast voltage fading. In this project doping other ions (Na, K, Al, Sn) replacing Ni and Mn ion...
